Some of the places, restaurants and accommodations you see on WhatWeShouldSee come from openly licensed datasets built by other people. This page names those sources and reproduces the license texts and attribution notices they ask us to pass along. It exists so that the data we share carries its licenses with it, which is what those licenses require.
Descriptions, recommendations, ratings and anything contributed by our own community are not from these sources.

Contains data from the Overture Maps Foundation — overturemaps.org.
The Overture places theme is published under the Community Data License Agreement – Permissive – Version 2.0, except for records sourced from Foursquare, which are published under the Apache License 2.0, and records sourced from AllThePlaces, which are released under CC0 1.0. The full text of each applicable license follows.
This is the Community Data License Agreement - Permissive, Version 2.0 (the “agreement”). Data Provider(s) and Data Recipient(s) agree as follows:
1.1. A Data Recipient may use, modify, and share the Data made available by Data Provider(s) under this agreement if that Data Recipient follows the terms of this agreement.
1.2. This agreement does not impose any restriction on a Data Recipient’s use, modification, or sharing of any portions of the Data that are in the public domain or that may be used, modified, or shared under any other legal exception or limitation.
2.1. A Data Recipient may share Data, with or without modifications, so long as the Data Recipient makes available the text of this agreement with the shared Data.
3.1. This agreement does not impose any restriction or obligations with respect to the use, modification, or sharing of Results.
4.1. All Data Recipients receive the Data subject to the following terms:

NO DATA PROVIDER SHALL HAVE ANY LIABILITY FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOST PROFITS), HOWEVER CAUSED AND ON ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, STRICT LIABILITY, OR TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE OR OTHERWISE) ARISING IN ANY WAY OUT OF THE DATA OR RESULTS, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
5.1. “Data” means the material received by a Data Recipient under this agreement.
5.2. “Data Provider” means any person who is the source of Data provided under this agreement and in reliance on a Data Recipient’s agreement to its terms.
5.3. “Data Recipient” means any person who receives Data directly or indirectly from a Data Provider and agrees to the terms of this agreement.
5.4. “Results” means any outcome obtained by computational analysis of Data, including for example machine learning models and models’ insights.
Records in the Overture places theme that originate from Foursquare are licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. A copy of that license is available at https://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0. Section 4(d) of that license requires us to reproduce the attribution notices carried in the dataset’s NOTICE file, which follow.

The Foursquare OS Places dataset (the “Data”) is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0 (the “License”). You may not use, modify, or distribute the Data except in compliance with the License.
As set forth more fully in the License, if you use, modify, or distribute the Data, you must:
– provide recipients with a copy of the License.
– if applicable, include prominent notices to the extent you’ve changed the Data.
– preserve attribution to Foursquare, including preserving the full content of this NOTICE.txt file.
To ensure appropriate attribution to Foursquare, we recommend the following:
– if using/distributing the Data in flat file form as-is or after making changes/modifications: include this NOTICE.txt file, which may be modified to include an additional notice of your changes/modifications, if any.

The notice above is reproduced verbatim. This paragraph is our own addition, which that notice expressly permits, and it records the changes we make to the Data, as the License requires of anyone who modifies it.
We do not redistribute the dataset as a flat file. We select a subset of records by geography and category, and we combine individual fields from them — venue name, category, phone number, website, address, coordinates, brand and open/closed status — with our own records. We reclassify categories into our own vocabulary, normalise phone numbers and addresses, and may correct or override individual values, including in response to reports from our users. Ratings, descriptions and recommendations shown alongside a venue are ours or our community’s and are not from the Data.
Records originating from AllThePlaces are released under the CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication, which imposes no attribution requirement. They are named here for completeness.
A minority of the coordinates we store were resolved using Nominatim, which is built on OpenStreetMap data. Those coordinates are © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.
The Overture places data described above does not include OpenStreetMap data; these are separate sources with separate licenses.
Identifiers and some coordinates come from Wikidata, released under the CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. Coarse boundaries and centre points come from Natural Earth, which is in the public domain. Neither requires attribution; both are credited here because we think you should know where the data came from.
If something on WhatWeShouldSee is wrong — a venue that has closed, a bad address, a place that should not be listed — please tell us at support@whatweshouldsee.com. Where the error came from an upstream source we will correct our copy and, where we can, report it upstream so everyone benefits.
